Background
NYU Stern School of Business committed to a new project 2 years ago to strengthen and unify its brand through a transformation of space in the first floor, upper concourse and lower concourse of Tisch and KMEC Buildings. The project was called the "Concourse Project". The plans for the Concourse Project required a complete renovation of the space where Stern's data center resided to replace them with modern classrooms.
Consequently Stern needed to find a new home for its data center before construction on the "Concourse Project" began. As NYU ITS had recently acquired a significant amount of new real estate, Stern worked out an agreement to occupy a subset of the space in their new data center. Due to the timing of the construction for the new space, Stern could not move its data center into it without delaying the "Concourse Project". In order to prevent any delays to the "Concourse Project", Stern reached an agreement with NYU ITS to lease some temporary space for Stern's data center until the permanent space was ready. NYU ITS announced in September 2009, that the new data center space was ready.
Because Stern IT had begun planning the move into the new space since January 2009 Stern plans to move to the new space quickly to avoid incurring any further costs from the temporary leased space. The move to the permanent data center will start Friday November 27, 2009 at 6:00am and end Saturday November 28, 2009 at 11:00pm. The date was determined based on consultation with Stern's leadership team, system usage traffic and the low amount of events occurring during the Thanksgiving break. |
