What is the Print@Stern Printing System?

The Print@Stern printing system is a smart, high-speed, high-availability printing solution for student printing. With the amount of printing increasing every semester, so does the amount of waste and the cost. Our goal with this new system is to eliminate the large amount of waste generated from erroneous print jobs and to provide better service the student population.

How does Print@Stern work?

Print@Stern works by installing a printer called “Print at Stern” onto your computer. This printer represents all of the public Stern printers you can use (normally you would have to install all of these printers separately). When you print to the “Print at Stern” printer your print job does not immediately print to a printer. The system actually saves your print job is to the print server where it is stored for 2 hours. This gives you time to print all of the documents you need without having to run back and forth from your computer to your printer.
Once you have finished sending all of your jobs to the printer you will need to find a “release station” to print out your jobs. These are the computers and touch screens that you see next to the printers. Simply slide your NYU ID card thru the card swipe and the system will display all of your print jobs . Just choose the print jobs you wish to print and press the “Print” button. Your documents will print to one of the printers nearest to that release station.

Who can use this system?

This system can be used by students currently enrolled in Stern class(es). Non-Stern students will not be in the system and will be unable to print to Stern printers. Faculty and administrators are not provisioned to use the student printing system.

What is the easiest way to install Print at Stern?

The easiest way to install Print at Stern is to install the "Popup Print at Stern" client. This will bypass having to register your alias with our system, however you will need to enter your netid/password the first time you print. Subsequent print jobs will provide you with a button that says "Last Answer" which you can use instead of typing in your netID/password again. Windows installation is very easy, just download the install file and run it. Mac installation requires a few more steps which we have outlined for you on our installation page.

How much will it cost to print? What is a Sternbuck?

Every July 1st, Stern students are given an allotment of 1500 sheets to print for the year (both semesters and summer). These pages are represented as "Sternbucks" within our system. When you go to the release station you will see how many Sternbucks you have available. 1 sheet of paper = 1 Sternbuck. We recommend that you print in duplex (double-sided) so you can print 2 pages on one sheet for 1 Sternbuck.
